Sci-Fi On Film In Education

In an earlier post I featured some of the resources I developed when I was teaching which have science fiction and sci-fi on film as their main theme. I recently put together a 21 page Word document containing a film as text unit of work on the 1997 film, Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccol.

The Gattaca film as text unit includes the following;

• Plot summary
• Film facts
• Previewing, introductory and post-viewing questions
• Character analysis activities: (includes use of tables and posters to present information, group tasks. character interviews)
• Importance of film’s setting
• Exploring film’s narrative structure: (includes key events and quotes; production and other important features; student directed tutorial)
• Main themes & Ideas: (Student group poster, PowerPoint or Prezi)
• Film as text essay writing topics
• Genetic engineering brochure design activity

This resource would be ideal for secondary Language Arts. English and Home school teachers who are exploring the genre of science fiction or the theme of genetic engineering or who are studying the film, Gattaca.

Feel free to visit my on-line "Ready To Go Teacher" Store or go direct to the Gattaca: Film As Text resource.

For my other sci-fi teaching resources go to; Sci-Fi In Education.

Stay tuned for the next post which will feature the 1956 sci-fi classic, Rodan!
